Recycling poster winners named

The City of Spokane announced the winners of its 2016 America Recycles Day poster contest at the Nov. 1 Board of County Commissioners meeting.

More than 240 students in 24 Spokane County classrooms participated in the contest, and 31 students were selected as finalists in the contest.

And 17 of the finalists will see their posters in the 2017 Spokane County Recycles calendars.

The spot on the cover of the calendar went to Heroshi Carino, who’s in fifth grade at Orchard Center Elementary in Spokane Valley.

This year’s calendars will be available for free from the City of Spokane Solid Waste Disposal Department just before New Year’s.

The 31 finalist posters are on display at River Park Square through Nov. 17.
