Explosion hits largest U.S. military airbase in Afghanistan, casualties reported

By Mohammad Jawad Tribune News Service

KABUL – An explosion hit Bagram Airfield, the largest and main US military airbase in Afghanistan’s central Parwan province on Saturday, NATO’s Resolute Support said.

“There have been casualties,” Resolute Support said in a statement, adding that “force protection and medical teams are responding to the situation.”

So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Nearly 10,000 US troops are stationed in Afghanistan assisting Afghan security forces under the Train, Advise and Assist, or TAA, mission.

On Thursday, four people were killed and 128 others were wounded when a suicide bomber drove a lorry loaded with explosives into the German consulate in the northern city of Mazar-e Sharif.
