Records: Man stabbed in chest wrestles knife from attacker’s hands

From staff reports

Court documents say a man was hospitalized last week after an acquaintance stabbed him several times in the chest in north Spokane.

Larry W. Mayhand, 37, remains in the Spokane County Jail for allegedly stabbing Allan Boyum on the evening of Nov. 10. Court documents say Mayhand approached Boyum in his garage at 406 E. Wabash Ave., Boyum told him to leave, and Mayhand stabbed him several times.

Boyum managed to pull Mayhand to the ground and wrestle the knife from his hand before police arrived, court documents say. Boyum was taken by ambulance to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Court documents say at least two people witnessed the stabbing but don’t indicate a possible motive. Mayhand is charged with first-degree assault and has a lengthy criminal history in Spokane County.
