Investigators making progress on large tool theft in Liberty Lake

Investigators are making progress on identifying suspects in the theft of an estimated $16,000 worth of tools stolen in a vehicle prowl in the 22000 block of Penrose Road on Oct. 30.

Two of the stolen items turned up at a local pawn shop, said Liberty Lake police Chief Brian Asmus. The man who pawned them, who has been arrested on unrelated warrants, said he paid someone he knew only by first name $400 for the two items. However, he earned only $125 by pawning them, Asmus said.

The man’s story is under investigation and he will likely face charges, Asmus said. Since then, several more of the stolen tools have turned up at local pawn shops. A different man sold those items and he is under investigation as well, Asmus said.

The pawned items have been recovered and returned to the owner.
