Volleyball: WSU defeats Colorado for milestone victory; UW moves closer to title

Washington State defeated host Colorado 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 in a Pac-12 women’s volleyball match in Boulder on Sunday, giving the Cougars 20 overall victories and 10 in conference play, coach Jen Greeny’s best records in her six years as WSU’s head coach.

Those are also the most overall and conference victories for WSU since 2002. This victory was the first for WSU over Colorado (13-15, 5-13) at Boulder.

Kyra Holt led WSU with nine kills and had five digs, two blocks and an ace. McKenna Woodford added eight kills and two blocks. Taylor Mims and Casey Schoenlein each made seven kills with Schoenlein hitting .545. Mims led the match with eight blocks including three solos.

No. 8 Washington defeated No. 16 Utah 25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18 in Salt Lake City to set up a showdown with No. 9 UCLA in Seattle on Wednesday with the winner clinching at least a share of the Pac-12 title.

With Sunday’s win, the Huskies eliminated the Utes (20-9, 11-7) from the conference race as well as Oregon.

Tia Scambray and Courtney Schwan both had 19 kills for Washington.
