Boys basketball: Anton Watson paces Gonzaga Prep over Rogers in the Greater Spokane League opener

Anton Watson scored 32 points with 15 rebounds and Gonzaga Prep outlasted Rogers 53-42 in the Greater Spokane League opener for both teams on Tuesday.

G-Prep opened a 29-15 lead at intermission. Rogers trimmed its deficit to seven after three, but the Bullpups finished strong to lock down the win.

Mandela Kalu paced Rogers with 12 points.

Lewis and Clark 70, North Central 47: Naje Smith was a force as he scored 16 points and the Tigers (1-0) defeated the visiting Indians (0-1).

Rashawn Lemery led North Central with 16 points.

Central Valley 49, Ferris 48 (OT): Ryan Rehkow scored 18 points and Jase Edwards had 16 to help the visiting Bears (1-0) edge the Saxons (0-1) in overtime.

Reece Van Lierop led Ferris with 13 points, including four 3-pointers.

Shadle Park 61, Mt. Spokane 55: Tanner Groves scored 21 points and the visiting Highlanders (1-0) pulled away in the second half to beat the Wildcats (0-1).

J.T. Smith’s stellar play kept Mt. Spokane in the game – he went 5 of 6 on 3-point attempts and totaled 23 points on the night.

Mead at University: Tanner Christensen scored 21 points and the Titans (1-0) held off the visiting Panthers (0-1).

Cameron Cavanaugh and Boston Tacke added 14 points apiece for U-Hi.

Chase Bos paced Mead with 16 points.

Oakesdale 72, Valley Christian 33: Kieron Anderson scored 27 points and the visiting Nighthawks (1-0) pounded the Panthers (0-1).

Nonleague

Springdale 62, Riverside 56: Austin Howder and Chandler Carr had 20 and 13 points respectively and the visiting Chargers (1-0) topped the Rams (0-1).

Springdale jumped out to a big lead in the first half at 34-18. Mikel Bias willed Riverside back into contention late in the game with four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. He finished with 18 points.

Lake City 72, East Valley 65: Duncan Butler scored eight of his 11 points in the third to lead the Timberwolves (1-0) in the second half to overcome the visiting Knights (0-1).

Kenny Louie-McGee led Lake City with 18 points, and James Carlson put up 15 points and had seven rebounds and two blocks.

Jeremiah Hillard led the Knights with 24 points and made 8 of 9 shots.

Timberlake 59, Sandpoint 58 (OT): Brayden Menti scored on an inbound pass from Brandon Hausladen with 5 seconds left in overtime to lift the visiting Tigers (1-0) over the Bulldogs (0-1).

Down by 10 at half, Hausladen forced overtime on a late game-tying shot.

West Valley at Lakeland: Collin Sather scored 14 points, Cletis Hydrick added 13 and the visiting Eagles (1-0) topped the Hawks (0-1).

West Valley dominated in the first half, going 6 for 9 in the first quarter, while Hydrick went 4 for 4 from beyond the arc in the second quarter.

Kaden Davis had 21 points to lead Lakeland.

Bonners Ferry 56, Newport 44: Caleb Stockton went 3 of 5 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points to help the visiting Badgers (1-0) beat the Grizzlies (0-1).

Bonners Ferry raced out to a 13-2 first quarter and shot 58 percent from the field and 50 percent on 3-pointers.

Caleb Harrington grabbed 11 rebounds to go with his 13 points.
