Girls basketball: Defending state champs Central Valley dominate Ferris in league opener

Lacie and Lexi Hull led defending 4A state champion Central Valley to a dominating 74-8 victory over host Ferris in the Greater Spokane League opener for both teams on Tuesday.

Lacie Hull scored 16 points and Lexi added another 13 as the Bears rushed out to a 24-0 lead after the first quarter.

Hailey Christopher finished with 12 points and Kalle Crouch added 11.

Lewis and Clark 53, North Central 40: Jacinta Buckley scored 15 points with 17 rebounds to help the Tigers (1-0) handle the visiting Indians (0-1).

LC led 29-22 at the break, but Buckley picked up eight points in a 17-point third to break things open.

Sativa Rogers led North Central with 18 points.

Mt. Spokane 66, Shadle Park 18: Aspyn Adams scored 18 points to help the Wildcats (1-0) defeat the Highlanders (0-1).

Jayden Lyman had 12 points and provided great passing for Mt. Spokane. Miahna Waters added nine points with seven rebounds for the Wildcats.

Gonzaga Prep 82, Rogers 25: Olivia Mayer and Kerynica Keyes scored 12 points apiece to help Gonzaga Prep beat visiting Rogers 82-25.

G-Prep took a 24-7 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Devyn Muse added 10 points while Ryan Decker had five assists and seven steals to go along with nine points.

Atyzha Upton led Rogers with 10 points.

University 56, Mead 54: Ellie Boni scored 20 points and the Titans held off a late charge to edge the visiting Panthers.

U-Hi built a nine-point lead after three quarters, but Mead outscored its hosts 19-12 in the final frame to make it close.

Gracee Dwyer hit three 3-pointers for the Titans.

Aaliyah Pauling led Mead with 19 points.

Nonleague

Pullman 49, Freeman 45: Rian Clear scored 14 points, Carolena Sears added 10 and the visiting Greyhounds (1-0) came back from an eight-point halftime deficit to beat the Scotties (0-1).

Pullman went on a 21-3 run in the third quarter to turn the tide.

Cassidy Crosswhite had 20 points for Freeman.

Lake City 59, East Valley 37: Nina Carlson scored 19 points and the Timberwolves (1-0) topped the visiting Knights (0-1).

Brie Holecek led East Valley with 10 points.

West Valley 51, Lakeland 29: Claire Sinner had 10 points to help the visiting Eagles (1-0) beat the Hawks (0-1).

Tauna Kirk led Lakeland with 12 points. The Hawks had 29 steals but also had 23 turnovers.

Cheney 60, Deer Park 43: Aijia Loffredi scored 17 points and the visiting Blackhawks handled the Stags.

Cheney lead tight game the entire way and held and advantage at free throw line, shooting 62 percent to Deer Park’s 46 percent.

Lily Pierce led Deer Park with 14 points.

Bonners Ferry at Newport: Casey Skeen scored 19 points and the visiting Badgers edged the Grizzlies.

The game was tied with 2 minutes left before Bonners pulled away with a couple of late buckets.

Newport’s Jocelin Nenema had seven boards to go with eight points.

Oakesdale 54, Valley Christian 36: Jacey Johnson put up 15 points and six rebounds to help the visiting Nighthawks (1-0) defeat the Panthers (0-1).

Phoebe Trigsted led Valley Christian with 13 points, but fouled out in the third quarter. Kendra Pope added seven rebounds.

Riverside 59, Springdale 14: Kendrah Shenefelt scored 14 points – 10 in the second quarter – and the Rams overwhelmed the visiting Chargers.

Riverside’s defense caused 30 turnovers and limited Springdale to single-digit points in each quarter.
