Gavin leads South Alabama past No. 19 San Diego State
Cole Garvin threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns and South Alabama (3-2) beat No. 19 San Diego State (3-1) 42-24 on Saturday night in Mobile Alabama.
Garvin, a sophomore starting in place of injured Dallas Davis, threw touchdown passes of 37 yards to Kevin Kutchera, 79 yards to tight end Gerald Everett, and 6 yards to Josh McGee.
The win upstaged the Aztecs’ Donnel Pumphrey, who went over 5,000 yards rushing for his career. The senior had 25 times for 156 yards and a touchdown.
New Mexico State 37, Lousiana Lafayette 31: Sebastian Anderson had a game-winning fumble recovery in the end zone in double overtime to lift the Aggies over the Ragin’ Cajuns in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Auburn 58, Lousiana-Monroe 7: Sean White threw for 239 yards and two touchdowns, Kerryon Johnson rushed for 146 yards and a pair of scores, and the Tigers (3-2) steamrolled the visiting Warhawks (1-3).
Appalachian State 17, Georgia State 3: Jalin Moore ran for 45 of 159 yards for a touchdown to break a scoreless tie in the third quarter and the Mountaineers (3-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) beat the Panthers (0-4, 0-1 Sun Belt) in Boone, North Carolina, in the conference opener.
Texas State 48, Incarnate Word 17: Tyler Jones passed for a school-record 475 yards and a career-high five touchdowns and the Bobcats (2-2) beat the Cardinals (1-4) in San Marcos, Texas.
