Fall prevention workshop Oct. 13

A fall prevention workshop will run 1-5 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Spokane Regional Health District, 1101 W. College Ave. Participants must register by Thursday.

The “Ready, Steady, Balance” seminar offers four credits of continuing education to social workers, case managers and physical therapists. The cost is $85 for continuing education, or $35 for general admission.

Spokane has one of the highest rates of senior falls in Washington state, said Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington, an organizer of the seminar in partnership with SAFE, EWU School of Social Work, and the Spokane Regional Health District.

The session includes fall prevention identification and building blocks of falls, from home hazards to balance problems, and red flags for risk.
