Education Notebook: TEC wins School of Distinction award

The Enrichment Cooperative at Bryant has received a 2016 School of Distinction award for continuous improvement from the Center for Educational Effectiveness and its partner organizations.

The award celebrates school staff, students and leaders who improve performance in reading/English language arts and mathematics. School of Distinction awards are based on five years of performance data on state assessments in those categories.

ESD101 will host a recognition program for the region’s winners at 10 a.m. Friday at 4202 S. Regal St.

Northwest Christian wins Scholastic Cup

Northwest Christian Schools has won the WIAA-Washington Army National Guard Scholastic Cup 2B Championship for the second year in a row. The Scholastic Cups are based on a point system that includes statewide finishes in academics, athletics and sportsmanship.

NWC earned five Academic State Championships: football, boys soccer, girls golf, boys track and field, and girls track and field. The school earned four second place academic state finishes in boys cross country, boys basketball, girls basketball and boys golf. The Crusaders also earned two first place athletic finishes in boys basketball and girls golf and a second place athletic finish in boys cross country.

There will be a ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday at Eastern Washington University’s Roos Field before the NWC Crusader homecoming football game.

Open house sports harvest theme

West Valley’s Outdoor Learning Center is hosting a harvest-themed open house where community members can make a rainmaker and paper pumpkin crafts, use interactive iPads and attend a Hoot Show.

The open house will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at 8706 E. Upriver Drive.

West Valley to host annual blood drive

West Valley High School invites students, staff and community members to participate in its annual blood drive.

The blood drive will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday at the school, 8301 E. Buckeye Ave.

West Valley Outdoor employee recognized

Tammy Carveth, an employee at the West Valley Outdoor Learning Center, was given the Above and Beyond Award at a Sept. 12 school board meeting.
