Area roundup: No. 18 Washington State volleyball sweeps Arizona

Kyra Holt had 14 kills with 14 digs and No. 18 Washington State (17-5, 7-3) swept Arizona (13-8, 5-4) 27-25, 25-23, 25-16 in Pac-12 play in Tucson, Arizona.

Nicole Rigoni had 16 assists with nine digs while Haley MacDonald added 15 assists.

The Cougars travel to face Stanford on Friday.

Washington 3, Arizona State 0: Bailey Tanner had 30 assists and No. 7 Washington (17-2, 7-2) downed Arizona State (8-14, 1-9) 25-18, 25-21, 25-14 in Tempe, Arizona.

Courtney Schwann added eight kills with 14 digs.

The Huskies travel to Arizona on Sunday.

Whitworth 3, Linfield 0: Emiko Kahler and Cassandra Mendoza had 11 kills apiece, Brenna Brull added 10 more, and Whitworth (16-5, 10-1) beat visiting Linfield (89-3-8) 25-14, 25-21, 25-23 in Northwest Conference play.

Erin White had 42 assists for the Pirates, who host Willamette on Saturday.

Wenatchee Valley 3, CC Spokane 2: Jessica Schmautz had 20 kills but visiting CC Spokane (21-12, 8-3) fell to Wenatchee Valley (10-21, 4-7) 26-24, 17-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-12 in Northwest Athletic Conference play.

The Sasquatch face North Idaho in Coeur d’Alene on Friday.

North Idaho 3, Yakima Valley 1: Brooke Bell had 17 kills, Zuri Meehan added 23 digs and visiting North Idaho (15-12, 10-2 NWAC) topped Yakima Valley 24-26, 25-13, 25-21, 25-16 in Yakima.

The Cardinals play Blue Mountain in Pendleton, Oregon, on Wednesday.

Women’s soccer

Gonzaga 2, St. Mary’s 1: Taylor Kernion and Mari Kneisel scored and Gonzaga (5-7-2, 1-4-0) beat visiting Saint Mary’s 2-1 for its first win in West Coast Conference play.

Sarah Swanson made four saves for the Bulldogs.

Gonzaga hosts Pacific on Sunday.

Northern Colorado 3, Eastern Washington 2: Mariel Gutierrez and Kenzie Engelkins scored second-half goals and visiting Northern Colorado (9-7-1, 4-4-0) edged Eastern Washington (10-3-3, 4-2-2) 3-2 in Big Sky play in Cheney.

The Eagles’ Delaney Romero scored just over 3 minutes into the contest and Aimie Inthoulay added a goal in the 29th minute.

Eastern Washington faces North Dakota on the road on Sunday.

Idaho 2, Northern Arizona 2: Amanda Pease scored her first goal of the season in the 91st minute and after two overtimes Idaho (8-4-4, 5-1-2 BSC) earned a 2-2 draw with Northern Arizona (6-7-4, 3-2-3) in Moscow.

NAU’s Riley Porter gave the Lumberjacks a late lead in the 71st minute.

The Vandals hosts Southern Utah on Sunday.

Men’s soccer

Washington 3, Gonzaga 1: No. 17 Washington (9-4) scored three quick early goals and cruised past Gonzaga (7-5-1) 3-1 in Seattle.

Elijha Rice, Quentin Pearson and Steven Wright scored for the Huskies, all in the first 17 minutes. Christo Michaelson tallied for the Zags.

The Bulldogs host San Diego on Friday.
