Phelps ties the knot – again – in Mexico

Washington Post

A whirlwind year for Michael Phelps continued Saturday, when he and his wife engaged in a second wedding ceremony. This one likely was a more formal affair than the first, and it reportedly took place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

It was recently revealed that the pair had already been married in June, in a civil ceremony in Arizona that they kept under wraps. In August, while Phelps was competing in the Olympics, Johnson, then thought to be his fiancee, said of their upcoming nuptials, “It’ll be small and intimate for the wedding, then we’re throwing a massive bash for everyone in the States.”

That “bash” has presumably yet to take place, but when it does, it will merely add to the list of memorable 2016 moments for Phelps. In addition to the two weddings, the 31-year-old Baltimore native became a father for the first time in May, and, of course, he had another triumphant performance at the Rio Games, adding five gold medals and a silver to extend his own all-time Olympic records.

Us Weekly and TMZ Sports cited sources in reporting that Saturday’s event took place in Cabo. According to Us Weekly, there were around 50 attendees at a beach-side ceremony at El Dorado Golf and Beach Club, including a full bridal party, and Johnson, 31, wore a Julie Vino dress.

Johnson, who was named Miss California USA in 2010 and placed ninth in the Miss USA pageant that year, began dating Phelps in 2007. They have a son named Boomer.
