Cheers to bystanders, police

I was a witness to the shooting in Manito Park on Saturday and was truly touched to see the number of people who sprang into action when I began shouting that someone had been shot. People who had no idea what they were running toward, but did it anyway. My husband who called 911. A nurse who grew up in the neighborhood and was visiting town for a wedding. A young man who used his shirt to stop the victim’s bleeding.

And I would also like to highlight the heroes who do their job responding to that sort of terrifying situation every day. The police officers who rushed to the scene were amazing. Every officer I spoke with was kind during the interview process, concerned for our welfare and that of our two young sons, and extremely compassionate throughout–a heartfelt thank you to you all. I especially want to thank Corporal Greene who, at the end of the interviews, specifically engaged us to ensure we were all right.

In light of recent negative national media stories about police, I feel it is important to share that our Spokane Police Department did a wonderful job during this emergency.
