Trump says he never discussed $25,000 donation with Florida attorney general

By Ben Brody and Kevin Cirilli Tribune News Service

WASHINGTON – Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said Monday that he “never spoke to” Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi about a $25,000 donation from his foundation to a group with connections to her at a time when her office was looking into fraud allegations against Trump University.

“I just have a lot of respect for her as a person and she’s done an amazing job as the attorney general of Florida,” Trump said. He said he has known Bondi “for years” and that she was “beyond reproach.”

The $25,000 donation from 2013 violated tax laws and resulted in a $2,500 fine, the Washington Post reported.

Bondi did not pursue the case, which Trump said matched the decisions of other state officials.

“Many of the attorney generals turned that case down because I’ll win that case in court,” he said.
