Fresh Sheet: Volunteers needed for Kitchen at Second Harvest

The Kitchen at Second Harvest is looking for volunteers to assist with hands-on cooking classes.

Duties include setting up cooking stations, tables and supplies as well as assisting participants during classes and helping with clean-up after classes.

Fall classes will take place 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays.

Restaurant Wars

This first-time food festival takes place from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Kendall Yards.

It’s free to attend. But those who want to sample fare from the eight participating restaurants must pay $17.

Participating restaurants are 1898 Public House, the Blackbird, Clover, Prohibition Gastropub, Hay J’s Bistro, Lantern Tap House, Ruins and Wandering Table.

There’s a beer garden, too, sponsored by Hopped Up Brewing, No-Li Brewhouse, River City Brewing, Elysian Brewing and Georgetown Brewing companies.

Organizers are Kris Kilduff of Duff Kast and Jennifer Evans of Encore Events. Kilduff said he was inspired by events such as Bite of Seattle and Feast Portland as well as reality TV contests. Restaurant Wars will also include live music, chef demonstrations and vendors.

Dry Fly needs votes

The Spokane distillery Dry Fly Distilling is in the running for the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

Its vodka was chosen by a panel of American spirits experts who nominated 20 craft vodka distilleries in the country.

Voting will end at 9 a.m. Sept. 12 online at 10best.com.

Barbecue cook-off

The Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel winds down its 2016 Celebrity Farm-to-Fork Series with a Barbecue Rib Cook-off on Sunday.

The farmers market opens at 1 p.m. near the front entrance. It’s free to attend.

The celebrity cooking show starts at 7 p.m. at the Chinook Meadow. Reserved seats are $20. Donations go to the winning chef’s favorite charity.

Chefs are Adam Hegsted, Jeremy Hansen, Molly Patrick and Chad White. Toby’s Barbecue is participating, too.
