CMR aids healthy forests

Our forests are being destroyed by horrific fires costing millions of dollars and creating untold economic loss for people. Not to mention the loss of personal memories and treasures. Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers has fought for legislation that would help prevent forest fires and give first responders more resources when fires strike again like what is happening now. Cathy helped write the Resilient Federal Forest Act that passed the House in 2015.

Too often responses to fire focuses only on the immediate problem without addressing the larger issue. This is understandable when a fire threatens your home. You want it extinguished as fast as possible. Without better forest management even the most valiant efforts by our firefighters won’t be enough to stop the devastation.

That is why I am encouraged by Cathy’s bill to solve the fundamental cause of fire: overgrown, mismanaged forests. It also provides funds for reforestation and establishes sustainable funding sources. With Congressman Morris Rodgers at the helm, I’m confident we’ll reduce the risk of catastrophic fire. That way we will all sleep better at night.
