Weekend weather: Sunny and seasonable for weekend

Weather should be improving through the weekend as higher air pressure arrives from British Columbia.

The showers, cooler temperatures and early-season fog that showed up this week will disappear in favor of more sunshine and temperatures mainly in the 70s.

A dry frontal system out of British Columbia overnight on Wednesday was expected to carry drier air with it, and a risk of frost for Thursday night and Friday morning in sheltered areas largely to the north of Spokane and Coeur d’Alene.

But the abundant sunshine of early September is going to allow the weather to warm up through Saturday with a slight dip in highs on Sunday.

Thursday starts out in Spokane with mostly sunny skies and an expected high in the lower 70s.

Passage of the weather system overnight on Wednesday is expected to whip up some modest southwest winds with gusts to 23 mph on Thursday.

The overnight low on Thursday night and Friday morning should be 42 in Spokane, but frosty in some places.

The weather warms on Friday with a high in the middle 70s in Spokane moving to the upper 70s on Saturday. Expect plenty of sunshine both days.

Sunday sees a modest cool down with a high near 73.

Lows will also warm back to the upper 40s to low 50s over the weekend.

Coeur d’Alene will see temperatures that are a few degrees cooler than Spokane through the weekend.

Breezy winds from the north to northeast will work their way through the region later in the weekend, arriving in North Idaho and the Spokane area on Sunday, forecasters said.

There is a chance for another warm up early next week, they said.
