University of Idaho misses public records deadline for files about feral cats

Associated Press

MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Idaho has missed a filing deadline in response to a request for any emails or documents involving the campus veterinarian and feral cats.

The university is under fire for a program conducted by the campus veterinarian in which he euthanized feral cats on campus. The Moscow-Pullman Daily News found the university failed to receive the appropriate approval for the program.

The newspaper reported that the representatives of the Daily News on Tuesday delivered a cashier’s check for $350 to the university in exchange for the documents, despite state law that says it can’t charge a fee for public records.

The newspaper on Aug. 31 requested the documents and 11 days later the newspaper received a request for payment before anyone would begin locating the emails.
