Women’s soccer: WSU beats Boise State while Gonzaga, Idaho, Whitworth lose
Alysha Overland’s fourth goal of the season in the 70th minute snapped a tie and sent Washington State to a 2-1 victory Sunday over Boise State in Pullman.
Kailiana Johnson scored her first goal of the season early in the second half to give the Cougars (5-2-1) a lead before the Broncos (1-7-1) tied it in the 47th minute. Susie White assisted on Overland’s game-winner.
The Cougars are undefeated (4-0-1) in their last five games.
Seattle (3-4-1) scored in the 17th minute and made it stand up in a 1-0 victory over visiting Gonzaga (4-3-2). The Bulldogs failed to score on four shots on goal, outshooting the Redhawks 9-6.
The Idaho Vandals (3-3-2) rallied from two goals down to tie but Cal State Bakersfield (3-6-1) scored in the 86th minute to take the victory in Bakersfield, California.
The Roadrunners took a 2-0 halftime lead before the Vandals scored their goals 37 seconds apart in the second half. Idaho’s Elexis Schlossarek scored on a penalty kick with the Vandals’ other goal coming from Kavita Battan with Schlossarek assisting.
Lura Morton scored two of Puget Sound’s three first-half goals and the Loggers (5-1, 2-0 Northwest) beat Whitworth 5-2 in Tacoma.
Whitworth’s Kathryn Bischoff scored the game’s first goal and Hannah Miller scored the last off an assist from Kara Need in the 89th minute for the Pirates (1-5, 0-2).
