Man arrested for robbery allegedly tried to pull a gun during a struggle with police

A man arrested Thursday on suspicion of robbery reportedly put up a brief fight and kept trying to reach for a gun in the waistband of his pants, according to police.

The original robbery reportedly occurred on Sept. 16 in an apartment building at 204 W. Wall Street. The victims said that David C. McLaughlin, 26, came into their apartment with three other men and allegedly stole cash, cigarettes, a cellphone and methamphetamine at gunpoint, according to court documents. One of the victims told police that he recognized McLaughlin.

Police located McLaughlin in Dutch Jake Park at Broadway Avenue and Chestnut just after 1 p.m. Thursday. He reportedly had a black Ruger 9mm pistol in the waistband of his pants, which was loaded with a round in the chamber, according to court documents.

He was reportedly in possession of methamphetamine and marijuana when he was arrested, according to court documents.

McLaughlin is a convicted felon and is not allowed to possess a gun. He is facing multiple charges of first-degree robbery and second-degree assault.
