Area roundup: Tyler Frost helps Gonzaga baseball top UC Santa Barbara

Tyler Frost went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Gonzaga beat UC Santa Barbara 4-1 in a nonconference matchup in Santa Barbara, California, on Monday.

Frost had an RBI single in a two-run third inning, another in the seventh and sacrifice fly RBI in the ninth.

Leadoff hitter Sam Brown went 3 for 4 with three runs while starter Mac Lardner (3-1) went five innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Pacific 14, Washington State 8: James Free went 4 for 5 with two home runs and four RBIs and the Tigers (13-15) beat the Cougars (15-13) in a nonconference game in Stockton, California.

Pacific’s Kevin Sandri went 3 for 5 with three RBIs and three runs.

WSU’s Justin Harrer went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and drove in six.

Junior hockey

Hockey Canada announced that Spokane Chiefs forward Jaret Anderson-Dolan is one of six players to make Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 roster for the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation U18 World Championship, while defenseman Ty Smith was invited as an underage player to participate in training camp.

The team is undergoing a pretournament camp in Etobicoke, Ontario, before taking off for pretournament games in Spisska Nova Ves, Slovakia. The tournament is April 13-23 in Slovakia.
