College baseball: Gonzaga pitcher Eli Morgan added to Golden Spikes Award list

Gonzaga junior right-hander Eli Morgan was added to the Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list, USA Baseball announced Wednesday.

Morgan is one of 40 players on the list for the award, given annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country.

Morgan is 5-1 with a 2.02 earned-run average. He leads the West Coast Conference and is ninth in the nation with 72 strikeouts.

Morgan is the active career leader in Division I with six shutouts. He pitched 26 1/3 scoreless innings from March 3-25.
