Man charged for role in Idaho fatal attack gets prison

Associated Press

BOISE – A man charged in connection with the killing of a man who was lured to a remote Idaho location and beaten to death has been sentenced to at least 28 years in prison.

The Idaho Statesman reported Jayson Woods was sentenced Tuesday to 23 years to life on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit robbery. The judge added on an additional five years for Woods accepting the earnings of a prostitute.

Woods was one of four men charged in the 2016 death of 49-year-old Steven Nelson.

Authorities have said Nelson believed he was meeting a man for sex but instead was ambushed and beaten. He died hours later.

Prosecutors say Woods devised the plan to lure Nelson to rob him.

Woods apologized to Nelson’s family during his sentencing.
