Gonzaga, sticks and stones

Here we go again. On April 1, the S-R published an article about Gonzaga University suppressing free speech over a t-shirt. About 12 to 14 months ago the same administration attempted to reject the

appearance of an invited conservative commentator only to be forced to accept his appearance after a public outcry.

This time it took only 47 minutes for the speech gestapo to stop the t-shirt sales after reportedly one malcontent complained about the words “Boys will be Boys.”

The Gonzaga basketball team has recently brought more honor and distinction to the university than any thought or speech police could ever bring. One of its players received a prestigious academic award having

the highest GPA (3.87) than any player in the Final Four. “Boys will be Boys” - achievers on and off the court.

When I was growing up, there was an adage, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” Wow, how times have changed.
