Where do ‘rights’ end?
Regarding Allen DeLaubenfels’ letter (“Health care a basic right,” April 4): Using his perverted interpretation of the Declaration of Independence and his claim that health care is an “unalienable right,” let’s carry it to a logical conclusion. Since housing keeps us warm and secure, the government should provide us with free housing, and since we need food to live, the government should provide free food. We also need clothing to keep warm to live so how about free clothing and do not forget shoes.
Oh! And then we need free meds and free electricity for heat. And then we need free cars to go get all our freebies with free gas. And let us not forget, we will also need a free bodyguard to protect us.
