Mariners pregame: M’s welcome back Ichiro. lineups and starter matchup

The Mariners take on the Miami Marlins on Monday to start a three-game interleague series, the final series of a nine-game homestand.

Former Mariner Ichiro Suzuki is making his first visit to Safeco Field since June 2014 when Seattle hosted the New York Yankees. Ichiro has appeared in 10 games as a visitor in Seattle since being traded from the Mariners in 2012, but he has never played in a Marlins uniform at Safeco Field.

After 12 seasons with the Mariners (2001-12), he ranks among Seattle’s all-time top-10 leaders in games, at-bats, runs, hits, doubles, triples, RBI, total bases, extra-base hits, walks, batting average and stolen bases. He holds the top spot in at-bats, hits, triples, batting average and steals.

Ichiro will face Seattle starter Ariel Miranda, who is in his second year with the Mariners. Miranda has recorded one loss this season in Seattle’s loss to Houston on April 11.

The M’s are coming off their first season sweep of the Texas Rangers, which ended on an 8-7 win on Sunday.

The Marlins are also on a three-game winning streak. They come to Seattle after winning three games out of a four-game series against the New York Mets. Miami’s only loss against the Mets was the first of the series in which the Marlins fell by one in the 14th inning.

In other Mariners news: Mariners lefty James Paxton has been named the American League Player of the Week for April 10-16.

Last week, Paxton led MLB pitchers in ERA (0.00) and innings (15.0). He is currently 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 21 innings. He has also recorded 22 strikeouts in his three starts this season.

On Saturday, Paxton became the 10th player in major league history since 1900 to begin a season with three straight starts of at least six scoreless innings.
