Washington Federal, with 10 area branches, marks 100 years in business

From staff reports

Washington Federal marked 100 years in business Monday.

The bank operates 236 offices across eight states and serves retail, small business and commercial clients. It has 10 branches in Northeastern Washington and North Idaho: Spokane, Colville, Chewelah, Deer Park, Moses Lake, Newport, Republic, Odessa, Sandpoint and Osburn.

The regional bank was founded in 1917 as a small neighborhood bank in Ballard, a Seattle neighborhood.

With $15 billion in assets, Washington Federal today has one of the highest capital ratios among the nation’s 100 largest publicly traded banks.

Washington Federal just appointed Brent Beardall, 45, to president and CEO. He is one of only six CEOs to lead the bank in 100 years.

“We are thrilled to celebrate our first 100 years in business and the partnerships we’ve established with all of our clients as we’ve grown from our humble start as a single branch in Ballard, Washington, to become one of the strongest commercial banks in the nation,” Beardall said in a statement.

The bank commits to seeing all its loans through from origination to repayment.
