Visalia 5, Modesto 2

MODESTO, Calif. A bloop triple plated the decisive runs in the Modesto Nuts 5-3 loss against the Visalia Rawhide on Saturday night at John Thurman Field.

In the eighth, Joe Pistorese (L, 0-1) started the inning for the Nuts (13-10) and could not get an out. He surrendered a double and RBI single before walking Marty Herum. That prompted the pitching change to bring Lukas Shiraldi into the game. Matt Jones was the first batter he faced and laid down a sacrifice bunt. Shiraldi’s throw to first was low allowing Jones to reach and load the bases. After striking out Henry Castillo, Galli Cribbs popped a three-run triple into shallow left with two outs to plate three unearned runs and give the Rawhide their first lead of the night.

The Nuts led for most of the game against Rawhide (13-10) starter Joel Payamps (W, 2-0). The only two runs plated against Payamps were in the fourth when Joe DeCarlo whacked a RBI single. The second run scored on a double play groundout. Payamps finished after seven innings and six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.
