Fire near Mabton 75 percent contained

MABTON, Wash. – The nearly 11,000-acre fire burning southwest of Mabton since Sunday is now at 75 percent containment, according to a release from the fire incident command center.

Crews mopped up 200 feet around nearby structures and a 50-foot perimeter around the fire Monday, the release said.

Firefighters plan to focus their efforts Tuesday on key areas at the north and west sides of the fire and crews expect the fire to reach 100 percent containment by Tuesday afternoon.

Remaining resources are expected to be released Tuesday afternoon to return to their home units.
