Crews continue to battle big blaze in southeast Idaho

By Kimberlee Kruesi Associated Press

BOISE – A wildfire burning in southeastern Idaho continues to grow and threaten structures due to strong winds propelling the flames.

Firefighters are battling the blaze roughly seven miles southeast of American Falls.

The fire has consumed 79 square miles since Friday evening.

Officials with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management say the fire has consumed six rural outbuildings, but no homes have been destroyed. However, some residents in Power County were asked to evacuate Sunday, as well as some campers in Bannock County.

Nearly 400 firefighters are currently working to put out the flames as of Monday.

The BLM says the fire was human caused, but no further details have been released because it is under investigation.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued an air quality warning in the area because of the significant smoke and ash from the fire.
