Grant County Sheriff’s deputy reports accidentally shooting of wife

Moses Lake Police responded to a report of an accidental shooting at a Grant County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s home Wednesday night.

The deputy, Jose Rivera, 28, told a 911 dispatcher that he had accidentally shot his wife, Sydney Rivera, 25. When officers arrived at the residence, located in the 1100 block of Lakeside Drive, they found that Sydney Rivera had sustained a single gunshot wound and was conscious, according to a Moses Lake Police news release.

Sydney Rivera was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake and later transferred to another medical facility. She is listed in stable condition.

Officers were able to speak with her at the hospital, and confirmed that the incident was not related to domestic violence. There is no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved, according to the release.
