Wedding crasher selfie leads to arrests for theft of wedding gifts

A pair of Spokane Valley wedding crashers who allegedly stole gifts were captured because they couldn’t resist taking a selfie.

A box of wedding cards and gifts were stolen from a wedding reception at the Mirabeau Park Hotel on Sunday. The couple had a “selfie station” set up at the entrance and quickly realized they had pictures of two uninvited guests, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

The couple posted the picture on social media and received tips that they forwarded to investigators. Those tips led deputies to a room at the Montvale Hotel. The couple, identified as 25-year-old Sierra M. Davies and 35-year-old Joshua L. Davies, were arrested when they came out of the room.

A search warrant led to the recovery of cards and cash, as well as methamphetamine, heroin, scales and packaging used in drug sales, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Sierra Davies told deputies that they stumbled on the reception and were broke and hungry, so they took a selfie, signed in and ate at the taco bar before making off with the box of cards and gifts, according to the Sheriff’s Office. She reportedly said she had seen the movie “Wedding Crashers” and thought it would be fun.

The couple is facing charges of first-degree theft and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
