Mariners Pregame: M’s on the road again, lineups and starters

Game 123: Seattle Mariners (61-61) at Tampa Bay Rays (60-63) at 4:10 p.m. at Tropicana Field.

The M’s embark on a 12-game, 14-day road trip through Tampa, Atlanta, New York and Baltimore. They took tow out of three against the Orioles earlier this week, including a 7-6 win on Wednesday. Seattle has gone 4-6 in its last 10 games and is 1 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Angels for the second wildcard spot in the American League. The M’s are 13 1/2 games Houston in the A.L. West.

The Rays are 2-8 in their last 10 games, three games out of a wildcard spot and 10 1/2 games behind Boston in the A.L. East.

The Mariners have won seven of the last nine games and 10 of the last 15 games in St. Petersburg (since 2012).

  • With his next RBI, Kyle Seager will become the 10th player in club history to collect at least 500 RBI with the Mariners. since Seager’s debut on July 7, 2011, he ranks 3rd among Major League 3rd baseman in RBI
  • DH Nelson Cruz leads the American League this season with 96 RBI while ranking sixth with 29 home runs. Cruz is one home run and four RBIs shy of becoming the fifth player in club history to hit at least 30 home runs and collect at least 100 RBI in back-to-back seasons.
  • Cruz has hit safely in seven of his last eight game on the road, including five multi-hit contests.
  • 2B Robinson Canó has recorded 77 RBIs this season, marking his 11th career season with at least 75 RBI, including at least 75 RBI each of his last nine consecutive seasons. Canó’s 11 seasons with at least 75 RBI in a season is tied for the most all-time by a second baseman.
