Three members of Spokane Valley family killed in Alberta crash

Three children died in a crash with a semi truck at an intersection near Hanna, Alberta, on Wednesday, leaving their parents injured and in the hospital.

The family is from Spokane Valley, said Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokeswoman Cpl. Laurel Scott.

The family was in an SUV heading west on Highway 570 when it was hit by a semi going south on Highway 36. A 16-year-old girl, an 11-year-old boy and a an infant girl died at the scene, according to an RCMP news release.

The crash occurred just before 6 p.m. One of the parents was taken to a local hospital via helicopter, the other was taken via ambulance. The driver of the semi was also injured. No names have been released by the RCMP, which continues to investigate.

The parents were reported to be in stable condition Thursday, Scott said.

Hanna is about 130 miles east of Calgary.
