Area college roundup: Gonzaga women’s soccer continues strong start to season

Callie Best and Madeline Gotta each scored, and host Gonzaga dispatched Omaha 2-0 on Sunday in nonconference action.

Best put the Bulldogs (2-0) in front in the 14th minute when she received a pass from McKenna Ferrera at the top of the box and successfully chipped the Mavericks (0-2) keeper.

Gotta added the second goal on a long-range strike in the 71st minute.

Isabel Jones made a pair of saves to preserve the clean sheet.

EWU 1, South Dakota 0: Lexi Klinkenberg notched the only goal of the game in the 46th minute, and the Eagles defeated the visiting Coyotes.

Emily Busselman and Kelsee Winston split goalkeeping duties while earning the shutout for EWU. The Eagles (2-0) outshot the Coyotes (0-2) 20-1.

Idaho 1, UC Riverside 0: The Vandals (1-1) benefited from a Highlanders’ (1-1) own goal in the 89th minute to claim the victory at Riverside, California.

Idaho finished with a 7-6 shots advantage. Keeper Makayla Presgrave registered five saves to help the Vandals hang on.
