WSU, EWU goalkeepers earn conference soccer honors

Goalkeepers Ella Dederick of Washington State and Kelsee Winston of Eastern Washington were given conference soccer honors on Tuesday.

Dederick was picked as the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week for making three saves and turning in a clean sheet in a double-overtime 0-0 draw with No. 19-ranked Minnesota in Pullman on Friday night. It was the third-year starter’s eighth career shutout.

Winston was chosen Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week. She played 45 minutes each in a pair of season-opening victories finishing with two saves and conceding no goals.

Whitworth tops NWC volleyball poll

Three-time Northwest Conference volleyball champion Whitworth received the maximum first-place votes from the league’s coaches in being chosen the preseason favorite.

The Pirates were 21-6 overall and 15-1 in NWC play last season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament where they lost in the first round to Texas-Dallas.
