Massey displayed courage

Pastor Jan Shannon needs to take a step back and read again, her Aug. 16 letter (“Why print hateful diatribe?”) regarding Pastor Steve Massey. Evidently Pastor Massey touched on something near and dear to her heart to elicit a response suggesting the S-R never print another column by him.

She referred to Massey’s clear, well-written column as being “error-filled,” calling for the S-R to apologize publicly to Spokane’s transgender community. Apologize for what? Presenting another viewpoint? Massey’s column ended by saying this: “This good news — the gospel — does not condemn those who embrace transgenderism. Instead it lovingly offers to them, and all of us sinners, the freedom to forsake the disordered desires (sin) that seek to rule us. A sex change can’t do this. We need the gospel to change our very hearts. That’s reality.”

It takes courage in this day and age to speak the truth. Especially when it does not support current fashionable ways of thinking. I certainly hope the S-R does not acquiesce to Shannon’s tirade and quench opposing ways of thinking as she would like to see done.
