Spokane Indians retain share of North Division lead with win over Volcanoes

From staff reports

KEIZER, Ore. – Curtis Terry homered again and the Spokane Indians topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 6-4 in the fourth of a five-game Northwest League series at Volcanoes Stadium on Tuesday.

The Indians (20-14) remain tied atop the North Division with Tri-City with four games to play.

Vancouver and Everett are both two games behind at 18-16.

The Volcanoes (12-22) took an early lead against Indians starter Hever Bueno. Kevin Rivera doubled in Manuel Geraldo with two down in the second, and Ryan Kirby made it 3-0 in the third with a two-run homer, his eighth of the season.

Spokane got on the board in the fourth with a solo shot by Terry – his team-leading 12th homer of the season.

The Indians got two more in the sixth. Miguel Aparicio led off with a single, then scored on Kole Enright’s double. Enright later scored when Terry reached on a two-out fielding error by the third baseman.

In the seventh, the Indians finally took the lead with another two-run rally. Clayton Middleton led off with a single and went to second on a sacrifice. Nick Kaye walked, and Aparicio reached via error to load the bases.

Enright walked to force in a run, and Tyler Ratliff’s flyout to right was deep enough to plate Kaye with the go-ahead run.

Cristian Inoa’s two-out single in the eighth drove in Middleton with an insurance run.

Bueno allowed three runs on five hits and two walks – with 10 strikeouts – over four innings. Joe Barlow (6-1) picked up the win with three innings of relief. He gave up one run on two hits and struck out five.
