Two arrested after fight leaves adult, child injured in North Idaho
An adult and a 10-year-old were injured after an altercation spiraled into a SWAT-response incident in North Idaho Friday evening.
At about 10:20 p.m., Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 1900 block of E. 12th Avenue. A fight had been reported but had just been broken up when law enforcement arrived, deputies wrote in a news release.
According to accounts from the scene, two men, 21-year-old Jared Allen and 31-year-old Matthew McCoy, had entered the residence without permission and demanded money, deputies said. During the ensuing fight, an adult victim and a 10-year-old were injured. Neighbors who heard the fight broke it up, and Allen and McCoy fled scene.
The two victims received “significant injuries,” the news release states, and were treated at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene.
Shortly after the fight, a call came in reporting an unknown male attempting to enter a residence nearby, deputies said. Post Falls police officers responded and arrested Allen, who was taken into custody under suspicion of attempted robbery, burglary, batter with intent to commit a serious felony, and injury to a child.
McCoy was tracked to a residence in the 9300 block of North Baack Street in Hayden, deputies wrote in the news release. Deputies surrounded the home and ordered the man to surrender, but he did not comply.
McCoy was finally arrested when a SWAT team entered the residence. He faces charges of attempted robbery, burglary, battery with intent to commit a serious felony, and injury to a child.
According to the news release, McCoy has been booked into the Kootenai County Public Safety Building on 23 prior occasions. Allen has no criminal history in Kootenai County.
