Reader photos: The birds of winter

From staff reports

Birds. Birds. Birds.

Spokane-area photographer Craig Goodwin captured a convocation of eagles in one tree on Lake Coeur d’Alene, near Wolf Lodge Bay.

Meanwhile, Joanie Christian, another local photographer, spotted this song sparrow perched in a crab apple tree full of berries in her yard.

And Cortney Litwin caught a snowy owl flying over a farm in Lincoln County on Dec. 3, 2017.

While many birds may seem frail and ill-suited to survive frigid winter temperatures, the truth is they’re masters at surviving cold weather.
