No, ‘Nashville’ star Connie Britton has no plans to run for office

WASHINGTON – Connie Britton doesn’t get into politics on-screen – she’s best known as Tami Taylor on “Friday Night Lights” and country superstar Rayna Jaymes on “Nashville.”

Off-screen, however, she’s quite politically active. Along with her close relationship to the Obama administration, she was a vocal supporter of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

So, when Britton was in town for a Smithsonian Associates Q&A at the National Museum of Natural History on Tuesday, a fan in the audience had one question: Would Britton ever see herself getting involved in politics?

“I really think your heart is so big and you could do an amazing job,” the fan gushed.

“Oh my gosh, thank you, that’s so nice,” Britton said, mulling the question: “Um … no.”

The audience cracked up.

“I would play one on TV!” she quickly added.

Britton, who also works as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program, continued: “I love being an actor, I love this work and that feels like what I’m meant to be doing,” she said. “But I really also love the humanitarian work, so that’s where I think the overlap came with the Obama administration. And then also with Hillary as well.

“That really is where it differentiates for me, because it really is less about politics for me and more about humanitarian work,“ Britton concluded with a kind-but-firm “no.” “But thank you. I’m really very complimented and honored.”
