A Spokane man died Friday morning when he lost control of his Ford Ranger on State Route 195 and slammed head on into a semi.

Alexander M. Gill, 20, was driving north about 21 miles north of Colfax just after 10 a.m. when he lost control and crossed the center line, according to the Washington State Patrol. His speed was too fast for the snowy conditions, the WSP said.

Gill, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. The driver of the semi, 57-year-old Michael W. Lee of Orofino, was not injured.

Gill was a graduate of Gonzaga Prep and a sophomore at Gonzaga University, where he was an art major, the university confirmed.
