Grip on Sports: If you are snowed in, don’t worry, the TV will get you through until it warms up

A GRIP ON SPORTS • Can you stay home today? Might be the best thing to do if you live in Spokane. At least until the afternoon. It might take that long to dig out from yesterday’s snowfall. Read on.

••••••••••

• Not sure how it is in other parts of the country, but Spokane was hit with an icy snowfall yesterday afternoon that continued, seemingly, throughout the night. The remains of 6 or 7 inches of new snow sit on the back deck and the front driveway, so it may take a while to get the dog out to do his business and the car out to do, well, anything usually scheduled for a Saturday.

Which makes it a good day to sit in front of the TV, am I right?

Thankfully, the gods of televised sports always provide.

If you aren’t one of the lucky few that have a Hummer or some such beast, you can still watch Eastern Washington’s afternoon basketball game with Portland State on SWX.

By the time Washington State and USC tip off in Pullman at 5, the temperature is predicted to get above freezing (and continue to warm up until around midnight), so maybe, just maybe you’ll be able to make it to Beasley. If not, there is always the Pac-12 Networks.

The evening holds two possibilities, though the first, Sacramento State at Idaho, isn’t on TV. You’ll have to use that old-fashioned radio thingee if you want to know what’s going on – though I’m sure there is some grainy, out-of-the-‘50’s-looking broadcast on the Interweb somewhere.

Gonzaga’s game has been pushed around the dial recently. It was originally scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and be broadcast on ESPNU. But a week ago it was switched to a 7 p.m. start and moved to the more prestigious ESPN2. I’m sure it doesn’t matter much to the Bulldogs or to visiting Santa Clara, but it may matter to the rest of us.

There is nothing worse than setting the DVR to the wrong time or channel.

If you do, then just check back here around 10 or so. I’ll let you know what you missed with my TV Take.
