Allonzo Trier helps No. 9 Arizona hold off Stanford

Allonzo Trier scored 22 points, including 12 of 12 from the free-throw line, and No. 9 Arizona escaped with a 74-67 victory over Stanford in Pacific-12 Conference men’s basketball action on Wednesday night in Tucson, Arizona.

Trier’s biggest offensive output since he returned to the team six games ago came in his first start of the season.

Lauri Markkanen emerged from a three-game shooting slump to make a 3-pointer that gave the Wildcats (22-3 overall, 11-1 Pac-12) the lead for good, 70-67, with 1:40 to go.

Trier added two free throws with 23.7 seconds to go.

Reid Travis led Stanford (12-12, 4-8) with 26 points. Arizona beat the Cardinal by 39 at Stanford on Jan. 1.

California 68, Arizona State 43: At Tempe, Arizona, Grant Mullins knocked down a season-high six 3-pointers for 18 points and Ivan Rabb recorded his 24th career double-double, helping the Golden Bears (18-6, 9-2) coast to a win over the Sun Devils (11-14, 4-8) in Pac-12 Conference play.

Mullinswent 6 of 9 behind the arc and Rabb had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Cal, winners of five straight.

Cal held the conference’s second-best scoring offense 39 points under its per-game average.

Obinna Oleka had 12 points and 14 rebounds for Arizona State.
