Oregon farm sues over deadly mink feed

SALEM – A lawsuit filed by an Oregon farm says animal feed tainted with botulism killed 11,000 of its mink, resulting in a loss of $2.8 million.

The Capital Press reported that AMC LCC of Mount Angel has filed a complaint accusing the Northwest Farm Food Cooperative of gross negligence and breach of contract for supplying the tainted feed in 2016.

The lawsuit also names The National Food Corp. as a defendant because the egg producer’s hens were use in the feed.

The complaint says the mink became sick and died within days. Botulism is a nerve toxin produced by certain strains of bacteria that grow in improperly processed food.

An attorney for AMC LLC says he can’t comment and Northwest Farm Food Cooperative and the National Food Corp. did not respond to requests for comment.
