Washington State women edged by No. 23 Arizona State
Sabrina Haines scored 17 points and No. 23 Arizona State edged Washington State 61-58 on Thursday in Pac-12 play in Pullman.
The Cougars (10-14, 5-8) went up 56-55 on a layup by Alexys Swedlund with 4:31 to go, but managed just a pair of free throws the rest of the way.
Sophie Brunner’s layup with 2:05 left put ASU (16-8, 7-6) up by one, and her jumper one minute later made it a three-point game.
Haines’ free throws with 14 seconds left sealed it.
Swedlund led Washington State with 14 points. The Cougars shot 37 percent, but went 3 of 15 (20 percent) from beyond the arc.
Quinn Dornstauder added 12 points for ASU, while Robbi Ryan added 10.
