Whitworth softball beats Whittier twice, sweeps third consecutive doubleheader
For the second day in a row and third time on its trip through the Golden State, Whitworth softball earned a doubleheader sweep, topping Whittier twice on Friday in nonleague play in Whittier, California.
The Pirates (8-2) scored five unanswered runs in the first game to win 5-2, then put up six in the fifth inning to take the second game 6-4.
Shannon Wessel went 3 for 3 and Tessa Matthews had a pair of RBIs in the first game. In the afternoon game, Kinsey McNaught went 3 for 3 and the first five hitters in the order all drove in runs.
Madi Perez (2-0) went the distance in the early game, while Ashley Trueblood (1-0) picked up the win in relief in the second.
