Whitworth women dominate early and knock off Pacific Luthern

Jessica Thoens scored 21 points, Grace Douglas added 20 and Whitworth (10-12, 6-7) knocked off Pacific Lutheran (1-21, 0-13) 72-60 in Northwest Conference action on Friday in Tacoma.

Thoens went 6 of 12 from the field and 9 of 11 from the line, while Douglas went 7 of 10 from the field, including 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.

As a team, the Pirates hit 49 percent overall, 4 of 9 on 3-point attempts and 16 of 21 from the line.

Madison Moffat scored 12 points with 11 rebounds and six assists, and Callie Harwood added 12 points.

Whitworth jumped out to a 21-6 lead after the first quarter and kept the Lutes at bay the entire way.

PLU was led by Kaelyn Voss with 16 points, Lacey Nicholson with 14 and Samantha Kelleigh with 12.
