NHL roundup: Zach Parise scores twice, Wild beat Red Wings 6-3

Zach Parise scored twice and Devan Dubnyk made 30 saves to help the Western Conference-leading Minnesota Wild beat the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 on Sunday in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Charlie Coyle added a goal and an assist, and the Wild scored three power-play goals in four chances. Minnesota leads Chicago by five points and has played two fewer games than the Blackhawks.

Anthony Mantha had a goal and an assist for Detroit, Henrik Zetterberg and Andreas Athanasiou also scored, and Jared Coreau made 23 saves. The Red Wings have lost four straight and have the worst record in the Eastern Conference.

Parise made it 4-2 early in the third off a scramble behind the net. Coreau tried to clear the puck around the boards, but Jason Pominville intercepted it and quickly fed it out front to Parise, who punched it into the open net.

Parise capped the scoring on the power play midway through the third period. Coreau deflected Jared Spurgeon’s slap shot behind the net, but Eric Staal knocked it in front of the net and Parise whacked it out of the air for his 13th of the season.

Boston 4, Montreal 0: Tuukka Rask had his first career regular-season home win over Montreal by making 25 saves for his sixth shutout, 39-year-old Zdeno Chara had a short-handed goal and the Bruins improved to 3-0 under interim coach Bruce Cassidy with a win over the Canadiens in Boston.

Adam McQuaid, David Krejci and Frank Vatrano also scored to help Boston win for the sixth time in eight games. Rask entered 0-9-3 at TD Garden during the regular season against Montreal.

Cassidy replaced fired coach Claude Julien.

Carey Price had 32 saves for the Canadiens. They lost for the sixth time in seven games.

N.Y. Islanders 5, Colorado 1: Anders Lee scored two of New York’s three third-period goals to lead the Islanders past the NHL-worst Avalanche in New York.

Nick Leddy had a goal and two assists, Ryan Strome and Jason Chimera also scored, and Jean-Francois Berube stopped 25 shots. New York improved to 7-0-2 in its last nine at home.

The Islanders won for the third time in four games and improved to 10-3-2 in their last 15 to pull one point behind Toronto and Philadelphia for the second wild-card spot in Eastern Conference.

Joe Colborne scored for Colorado, and Calvin Pickard made 28 saves.

Vancouver 4, Buffalo 2: Alexandre Burrows scored for Vancouver and got under Buffalo’s skin with his pesky play as the Canucks beat the Sabres in Buffalo, New York.

Burrows scored the go-ahead goal five minutes into the second period and also had an assist.

In the first period, Burrows slashed and shoved Buffalo goalie Robin Lehner, and Lehner retaliated with a shove. After the two were separated, Sabres defenseman Justin Falk took a high-speed run at Burrows and bowled him over. Lehner, Falk and Burrows were penalized for roughing, and Vancouver’s Bo Horvat scored on the ensuing power play.

Michael Chaput scored twice for the Canucks, and Jacob Markstrom stopped 26 shots. Tyler Ennis and Kyle Okposo scored for Buffalo, and Lehner had 27 saves.

Nashville 5, Dallas 3: Filip Forsberg scored a short-handed goal 6:02 into the third period and the Predators overcame a three-goal deficit to beat the Stars in Nashville, Tennessee.

Roman Josi scored twice, Calle Jarnkrok had the tying goal 4:40 into the third, and Mike Fisher added an empty-netter with 1:38 left. James Neal and P.K. Subban each had two assists.

Jamie Benn had a goal and an assist for Dallas. Patrick Sharp and Devin Shore also scored, and Tyler Seguin had three assists.

San Jose 4, New Jersey 1: Brent Burns scored two goals and the Sharks beat the Devils to snap a four-game losing streak in Newark, New Jersey.

Joe Thornton had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, Kevin Labanc added two assists, and Tomas Hertl had an empty-net tally late in the third period. Martin Jones made 21 saves.
