Coeur d’Alene officer to receive Idaho Medal of Honor posthumously
A Coeur d’Alene police officer shot and killed in the line of duty in 2015 will be awarded the Idaho Medal of Honor.
The Idaho Medal of Honor Commission on Thursday voted unanimously give the award posthumously to Sgt. Greg Moore, who died May 5, 2015, after he was shot in the face while on patrol.
“From my perspective, the honor bestowed upon Sgt. Greg Moore today is more than an acknowledgment of his service and sacrifice, it is homage to the dedication to duty, professionalism, and bravery that you all display on a daily basis,” Police Chief Lee White said in a memo to his staff.
Although Moore worked in a supervisory role, he was actively patrolling the community in the middle of the night when he was killed, White said.
“His leadership example was not only an inspiration for the police officers who served with him prior to the tragic events of that night, it continues to serve as a reminder that our primary role is that of a protector of our citizens and our community,” he wrote.
